I started working with Nike employees. The benefits package was robust but indeed, not what it is today. At the time, Nike was #1 in footwear, printing around $4.7 billion of revenue—ahead of Reebok, Adidas and recently conceived Under Armour (with total revenue of approximately $17,000). As such, Nike’s benefit plan (although not lacking) did not need to be overly complex or competitive beyond the footwear industry.

FLASH FORWARD TO TODAY

Nike is a Fortune 100 company approaching $35 billion in revenue. Consequently, Nike is not just competing with the likes of the footwear industry but against the top companies in the world to both retain and attract talent. As a result, the Nike benefit plan has become highly competitive as well as thoroughly involved.

Enter Human Investing, one of the foremost experts on the Nike benefit plan. Not only have we been engaged in the brand for over two decades, we’ve brought in experts. We are deploying in-house Certified Financial Planners, Certified Public Accountants, and Benefit experts to care for the Nike employees we serve.

THERE IS NO FINISH LINE, BUT THERE IS RETIREMENT

For the Nike employee, we are intimately aware that the intensity of work-life, meetings, and work-travel may crowd out the available time to pay proper attention to the benefit plan(s) currently being offered. Competing demands for your time does not mean the benefits should go neglected.

With that said, we are currently focused on doing first of the year planning to ensure all benefits are maximized. Our process includes looking at deferral percentages to 401(k), Deferred Comp, ESPP, and more. Additionally, we are evaluating the investment portion of the benefits to make sure the proper investment allocations have been made and, if necessary, rebalancing according to plan. Finally, we are taking the necessary steps to gather appropriate documentation to file taxes on time and in many cases, ahead of the April 15 deadline.
